In network marketing, most people start with the mistaken assumption that they do not have enough people to talk to. The reality is that everyone has a market - it is just not organized. Mapping the market is neither manipulation nor cold calculation: you simply put order into who you know, what kind of relationship connects you to whom, and to whom what you offer could truly be valuable. This work is what distinguishes the rushed beginner from the calm, methodical professional.
What is the warm and what is the cold market?
The warm market is everyone with whom you already have some kind of trusting relationship: family, friends, former colleagues, neighbors, your hairdresser, your old classmates. With them you do not need to build trust, it is already there - here the task is not persuasion, but honest, pressure-free information. The cold market consists of those with whom you do not yet have a relationship: strangers on social media, people outside your circle of acquaintances, the public.
Many people flee straight to the cold market, because there the rejection does not hurt as much. Yet the reverse is worth doing: the warm market is the training ground where you practice the conversation, and the cold market is the tool for scaling, once you already have a system. The two do not compete with each other, they build on each other.

The name list - without judgment
The first concrete step is a name list with at least 50-100 people on it. The most important rule: do not filter in advance. The most common mistake of newcomers is that they decide in their heads about someone that they will surely not be interested - yet it is not your job to decide on behalf of someone else. Your job is to inform honestly, their job is to decide whether they are interested.
To build the list, use the memory-jogging categories, so that not only the closest five people come to mind.
- Family and relatives, both close and distant
- Current and former workplace connections
- Members of your leisure and hobby circle (sports, community, church)
- Service providers you meet regularly (hairdresser, trainer, accountant)
- Relationships formed around children (fellow parents, coaches)
- Your social media acquaintances with whom you also have a real relationship
Segmentation: not every contact is the same
Once you have the list, it is worth categorizing it, but not according to who will say yes. You cannot know that. Instead, group by the warmth of the relationship and the logical relevance: who could genuinely benefit from the product, who is currently seeking a change in their life, with whom you have a relationship strong enough to speak honestly. This helps you tailor your conversations to the person, rather than reciting a template.
An important compliance principle: the list is not a hunting list. These are people whose relationship with you remains more important, even after the conversation, than any business result. If you keep this in mind, you will never seem pushy, and your market will expand year after year, because people are happy to refer others.
The question is not whether you know enough people. The question is whether you treat the people you know with enough respect.
